Exploring the East

Thelymitra flexuosa, twisted sun orchid After a slightly slow start for the day and a detour into town for a few groceries I head across the island to Naracoopa. David had said the Naracoopa Jetty is good snorkelling but with the conditions today it's not going to happen.  Naracoopa Jetty - with a bit of surf and very stirred up water I did walk out on the jetty and read a little of the history of it and was pleased to see that the King Island community has yet again stepped in and said 'we don't want part of our history demolished' (as they also did when the Currie lighthouse was decommissioned) and the jetty was preserved and restored.  Showing a section of Jetty construction South from the Naracoopa jetty I locate the public amenities which does include public toilets, which are far and few between on the island. Northward bound

Cape Wickham Lighthouse, the tallest in the southern hemisphere I wake to a lovely day, clear blue skies and a light breeze. So ideal for exploring.   Before going further afield, I head into town to fill up with petrol. I consider it best to close my eyes and wave my payment card rather than dwell on the cost.  Heading north, I stop briefly at the top shop at Reekara, but it's closed. It's only open very limited hours so I proceed to the Springs, driving through some beautiful coastal heath once off the main road; and arrive to some more lovely coastline and the northern end of Yellow Rock Beach  Coastline near The Springs I did need to stop for a blue tongue lizard which was right in the middle of the road.  Why did the Blue Tongue Lizard cross the road? I'm barely 50m onto the beach before I feel the need to extract my trash and treasure collecting bags. Unfortunately there's more for the format than for the latter, but I did spot a lovely ...
